Technology Plan

Vision Statement

Louttit library will continue to maintain relevant existing technology services and hardware and to explore, evaluate and adopt new and emerging technologies which support our mission to enrich, enlighten and meet the informational needs of the West Greenwich community.

Goals and Objectives

1. Human Resources: with the understanding that a well-trained and informed staff is the best way to maintain and improve services to the public, the library will host in-house training sessions, support workshop/OSL meeting attendance and foster skill sharing amongst all staff utilizing traditional and video formats

2. Public Services

  • Offer and support internet access and assistance to the public with 6 desktop pcs, 2VDIs, and 3 laptops networked with color printers
     
  • Continue to promote eresources available through OSL: including ebooks, databases and continuing educational opportunities
     
  • Continue to offer photocopying, and faxing services and explore the addition of USB/scanner service

3. Public Computing Equipment

  • Maintain and update desktop PC's, laptop PC's, VDI computers, network hardware, and
    peripherals for patron use
     
  • Continue offering headphones, USB drives, and chargers and investigate offering ereaders and other popular devices for patron use
     
  • Explore upgraded/enhanced wireless access to improve the speed and signal strength in both the main building and the Community Center
     
  • Explore adding audio/visual equipment to the Community Center for both library programming and community group meeting use

4. Community Partnership

  • Continue to use and improve website and social media promotion of library services, events and programs to the community
     
  • Build bridges with local organizations to promote library services and create a library advocacy support network
     
  • Reinstate a Library Friends Group charged with hosting fundraising activities to supplement tech funding and program development

Evaluation

Director participation in the 2014 Edge Initiative will provide bench marks and tool s for the initial and ongoing evaluation of this technology plan.

Budget

The speed and costliness of new and emerging technologies will necessitate the utilization of both traditional funding sources such as municipal support, State Grant-in-Aid Funding and Champlin Foundation Grants, as well as seeking additional sources of funding through community support and other grant applications.

Louittit Library is a member of the Ocean State Libraries Consortium (OSL).
